L' <br />C <br />.. a <br />1) Containers of hazardous materials are empty when all possible waste has been removed by <br />pouring, pumping, draining, scraping, chipping or aspirating (i.e. nothing pours out when inverted). <br />2) Empty hazardous material containers larger than 5 gallons and less than 110 gallons must be <br />labeled with specific items: <br />i) "Empty" <br />ii) The date it was emptied. <br />3) Empty containers must be returned to the vendor, recycled or disposed at an appropriate solid <br />waste facility. <br />Used Oil Filters and Fuel Filters <br />1) In California, used oil and fuel filters are not considered hazardous waste but they cannot be <br />disposed of in the dumpster. Store Managers must ensure that: <br />2) Containers are labeled "Drained used Oil and Gasoline Filters" <br />3) Containers are marked with the start accumulation date. <br />4) Containers are kept closed except when filters are being added <br />5) Used oil and gasoline filters are not stored on site for more than 1 -year past the initial date of <br />accumulation. <br />Accumulation <br />1) In California, allowable storage times for hazardous waste vary depending on the stores monthly <br />generation rate of hazardous waste. For stores generating more than 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs) of <br />hazardous waste per month, Store Managers must: <br />i) Ensure that waste is removed within 1 -year of the initial date of accumulation or within 90 -days <br />of the time the container is full (whichever occurs first). <br />ii) Most BSRO stores in California generate more than 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs) of Hazardous Waste <br />per month. <br />For stores Facilities generating less than 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs) of hazardous waste per month, Store <br />Manages must: <br />1) Ensure that hazardous waste is removed within 180 days (270 days if the offsite treatment, <br />disposal, or storage facility is more than 200 miles away). <br />Recordkeeping <br />• The Store Manager is responsible for managing the stores disposal records for the past three years. <br />Records must be readily available in the event a State Regulator visits the store.
