Pharmacy Hazardous Waste Disposal, Continued <br />Contaminated Prior to cleaning any equipment or utensils with soap and water, the below <br />Compounding steps must be followed in order to minimize the potential for pharmaceutical <br />Equipment waste to be rinsed or discarded in any sinks or drains. <br />and Utensils <br />Ste ° r <br />Action <br />Remove any residual pharmaceutical materials that may remain <br />1 <br />on equipment or utensils using an alcohol wipe or paper towel <br />wetted with 70% alcohol. <br />2 <br />Place the used alcohol wipe or paper towel in a StrongPak self- <br />sealing bag. <br />3 <br />If there are any free liquids in the StrongPak self-sealing bag, <br />absorb them with a paper towel and seal the bag completely. <br />4 <br />Place the sealed bag into a second StrongPak self-sealing bag. <br />5 <br />Seal the second bag completely. <br />6 <br />Write "Compounding Cleanup" on the bag with a permanent <br />marker. <br />7 <br />Place bag in the StrongPak "PHARMACY" container. <br />Trace Chemo- Any trace chemotherapy materials must be collected and placed in a <br />therapy Waste StrongPak self-sealing bag labeled "Trace Chemo." The sealed StrongPak <br />bag must then be added to the StrongPak "PHARMACY" container. <br />Trace chemotherapy waste includes: <br />• All packaging <br />• Cotton balls <br />• Gloves <br />• Wipes <br />• Anything else that was exposed to the chemotherapy agent <br />Used Flu All used flu vaccine vials must be collected and placed in a StrongPak self - <br />Vaccine Vials sealing bag and added to the StrongPak "PHARMACY' container. <br />NOTE: Used syringes are not included in this program and must not be <br />placed in the StrongPak "PHARMACY' container.
