w
•
Cold Stress
• Wear multilayer cold weather outfits. The outer layer should be of wind resistant
fabric. Drink warm fluid. Provide warm shelter for resting. Use the buddy system.
Avoid heavy sweating.
Attachments 11 and 12 of this HSP addresses the heat and cold stress hazards.
Noise Hazards
• Use earplugs when noise level prevents conversation in normal voice at a distance of 3
feet.
1 Additional standard operating procedures are described in Attachment 4.
Monitoring Procedures
Is Perimeter Identified? Yes Is Site Secured? Yes
• The exclusion zone will be indicated with flagging tape or chain fence. The zone will
be determined by the OSHSO and will be based on areas needed for successful
equipment operation and the results of air monitoring.
• No one shall be allowed to enter an exclusion zone without the required PPE.
Personnel entering an exclusion zone shall comply with all restricted area entry and
exit procedures.
Is a Map/Site Sketch Attached with the exclusion zone, contamination reduction zone, and
support zone identified? (See Site Map) Yes X No
To perform initial site survey and subsequent periodic monitoring, a PID will be
available. This monitoring will continue during the course of work.
• A PID will be used to detect the total concentration of many organic and inorganic
gases and vapors. The 10.2 eV lamp span will ensure the significant range of
detectable chemicals. Attachment 8, addresses the limitations of the instruments.
• Initial air monitoring for identification of toxic contaminants will be qualitative, (i.e.
the contaminant or the class to which it belongs is demonstrated to be present.)
• PID calibration gas consists of approximately 100 ppm isobutylene in an air matrix
that is referenced to benzene. The meter reading obtained during calibration is
' marked on the gas counter label. Most calibrating gas canisters supplied by HNu have
a label set up with particular ppm to be read with a span of 9.8 for 10.2 eV lamp and
10 for 11.7 eV lamp. Calibrations should be performed daily.
' • Prior to start of work airborne, concentrations will be measured within the exclusion
zone boundaries and in the breathing zones of workers for a minimum of 10 minutes.
A-12
G
