Walnut Street, Suite 5, Turlock, Ca. Soil samples will be excavated using backhoe. Samples will be taken two (2) feet to four (4) feet by hand using brass tubes. All of the above procedures will be done according to code. Any part not backfilled shall be barricaded with construction barricades and caution tape will be used. Western Meter Service will use proper equipment for each tank removal. No undersize or bad mechanical equipment will be used. All heavy equipment will be supported properly. Tanks are to be secured at the assigned location after extraction. Western Meter Service will provide safety hats, goggles, and clothing to employees at the job site as per OSHA regulation 29 CFR 1910.120. Caution will be noted that a heat stress situation may develop when impermeable protective clothing is worn. Western Meter Service will hold shop meetings before start of tank removals to discuss safety procedures. The "buddy system" will be discussed and the course of action to be taken should an injury occur to an employee. Some of many rules to be discussed to help prevent injury or accident are: 1) .avoid standing on top of the tank --surface maybe slippery or rusty, 2) check for falling objects, slipping, and tripping hazards, 3) visqueen sheet- ing will be used if necessary around excavated soil, 4) where necessary, the site will be secured with construction barricades and warnings signs posted to prevent the exposure of unauthorized, unprotected people to site hazards, 5) limit exposure time to noisy equipment, 6) keep a safe distance from the ex- cavation and heavy equipment, 7) stay up -wind from the tank and/or excavation to avoid unnecessary exposure whenever possible, 8) limit exposure by minimiz- ing the exposure time and maximizing the distance to the source of vapor release, 9) avoid the area or take special cation when ventilating the tank - _with water,__dry ice -or air, 10) do not enter the excavation without first monitoring the air. Western Meter Service shall provide Public Health Service/Environment Health Division a map of the nearest hospital and route to be taken should an injury occur. A copy of the map will also be on the job site with permits.
