The answer depends on whether or not the pots store product. According
to industry literature, vapor pots are small volume tanks installed in vapor recovery
Pules to provide a step up point for vapor recovery piping runs that cannot maintain
sufficient slope back to the tank. The step up can cause vapor to condensate and
collect in the vapor pot. If not removed, storage of product results.
To answer your question, we can refer to the de, nition of a pipe. According to
Section 25281.5 of the Health and Safety Code, vapor piping is mempt from
regulation if an overfill prevention device prevents standing fluidin the piping. In
. Z-9
product.
Some vapor pots now on the market, are designed and constructed with an,
automatic system that removes condensate when it reaches a preset levef* This is
usually a pump or vacuum assisted evacuation via the underground storage tank's
submersible pump. If a vapor pot is designed, constructed, and installed with an
automatic condensate removal system to keep the vapor pot virtually empty then
the vapor piping and vapor pot remain exempt from regulation. Virtually empty
means that the product left after the pump has been activated can readily escape
from the vapor pot through vaporization.
To verify that the vapor pot. is designed and constructed with an automatic
condensate removal system, the local agency must review the vapor pot design
plans. If there is no automatic condensate removal system the pot would be
regulated and have to meet the requirements of Article 3 'California Code of
Regulations (CCR).
P*16 w4ion
Gavarar
:Juz-
