The training program will reflect the <br />extent of the hazards present in the hospital and the types of <br />emergencies anticipated. It will also be consistent with the <br />responsibilities of the employees to be trained. <br />Training consists of initial training and annual refresher training <br />conducted by qualified individuals in principles and practices of <br />hazardous materials/waste management. <br />Maintenance personnel and other designated employees receive <br />training in a program that includes: <br />1. Methods of safe handling of hazardous materials; <br />2. Procedures for coordination with local emergency <br />response agencies; <br />3. Use of emergency equipment and supplies; <br />4. Training in emergency response procedures in the event of <br />a release or threatened release of hazardous materials; <br />S. Initial training within one week of hire, or prior to <br />handling any hazardous material, and annual training <br />thereafter; <br />Training for individuals responsible for the handling and <br />manacement of hazardous materials includes: <br />1. Proper transfer and storage of hazardous materials; <br />2. Manifesting and recordkeeping; <br />:3. Use of appropriate personal protective equipment; <br />4. Familiarization with emergency response procedures; <br />b. Initial training of new employees within 6 months of hire; <br />no managing hazardous materials in unsupervised positions <br />until trained; and annual refresher training provided. <br />a <br />
