Purgeable TPH, BTEX, and EDB were not reported in the samples. Lead was reported in
both of the stockpile samples, but neither of the excavation samples. Samples #70984W
and #70985E were reported to contain 6 mg/kg and 14 mg/kg of lead respectively.
Based on SJCEHD requirements, an original set of analytical results were sent directly to
SJCEHD by the laboratory. A copy of the analytical results is attached for your review and
records.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
On April 28, 1992, Scrivner removed the underground storage tank (T1) north of the
engineering offices at the San Joaquin County General Hospital. The tank was removed
under permit by SJCEHD and the fire department.
After removal, the tank was visually inspected. No holes, dents, tears, or scrapes were
observed. The tank was subsetly transported under manifest by Erickson to their
facility in Richmond, California, Zrfodestruction.
Two samples were collected from the soil stockpile and two soil samples were collected
from the excavation. The samples were analyzed for purgeable TPH, BTEX, EDB, and
total lead. With the exception of lead in the stockpile samples, the laboratory did not
detect the requested analytes in the submitted samples. The reported concentrations of
lead are below State action levels; and, based on Kleinfelder's experience, represent
naturally occurring lead concentrations in Central Valley soil.
Based on the analytical results, the excavation was backfilled with pea gravel and paved to
match the existing road surface, and the stockpiled soil was removed as clean fill by J.T.
Paving for use on their yard in Stockton, California.
Based on the apparent condition of the tank and the analytical results, Kleinfelder does not
recommend additional assessment or remediation of the Tank Tl site. A copy, of this letter
report be sent to SJCEHD to obtain closure of the site.
Sincerely,
KLEINFELDER, INC.
2- _
G
Dana W.
