Stockton Army Air Facility, Tank removal application page 2
2000 Stimson Rd., Stockton.
Previous UGT removals (tanks 1, 2, and 3) noted significant soil contamination in
soil boring "B-3" from 15 feet to 30 feet below grade just northwest of tanks #4
and #5. The three onsite monitoring wells to the west of tanks #4 and #5 have
recorded the groundwater gradient to the northeast and as such, are not in a
position to represent groundwater conditions down -gradient from the tanks
proposed to be removed. If soil contamination is detected during this
removal, an additional soil and groundwater investigation will be required.
The soil and groundwater lateral and vertical extents (up -gradient, down -
gradient, laterally to the east and vertically to the Fall -1978 depth to first
groundwater) will need to be delineated.
Additionally, if soil contamination is discovered during tank #4 and #5's
removal, pea gravel will not be allowed to be used to backfill the tank pit.
Please submit a revision to Michael Infurna for your application that addresses
the above noted items. You may contact Mr. Infurna at (209) 468-3454 if you
have any questions.
Thank you for your cooperation,
Michael J.
