Figure 31. Probe Riser Cap Modification.
If a kit has not been ordered, perform the following:
.114 WARNING: DO NOT PERFORM DRILLING, FILING,
GRINDING AND TAPPING PROCEDURES IN A HA-
ZARDOUS AREA. DRILLING, FILING, GRINDING
AND TAPPING CAN CAUSE SPARKS AND IGNITE
VOLATILE FUMES AND LIQUIDS FOUND IN A
CLASS I, GROUP D HAZARDOUS LOCATION. FAIL-
URE TO COMPLY COULD RESULT IN DEATH,
SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY LOSS
AND EQUIPMENT DAMAGE.
1. Use a standard 4" tank locking cap, "Evertite" or equiva-
lent, with standard ring adaptor (without lugs).
2. Check for lugs on the ring adaptor. If present, these lugs
will interfere with the float installation and the adaptor
ring must be replaced or modified (see Figure 32, "Ring
Adaptor Modification"). To modify the ring, first remove it
from the HAZARDOUS area, then file or grind off the lugs.
Once the floats fit, install adaptor on riser pipe.
6 REMOVE
3.875
MINIMUM
Figure 32. Ring Adaptor Modification.
3. Drill and tap the cap for a 3/8 x 18 NPT cord grip thread
(see Figure 31, "Probe Riser Cap Modification").
4. Install a water -tight cable bushing in the 3/8" threaded
hole in the top of the cap. Use an appropriate thread
sealant to ensure water -tightness. Also install a water-
tight cable bushing in the probe junction box in a similar
manner.
Site Preparation and Installation Instructions
EMC UST Monitoring System
h1
Install each probe as follows (see Figure 33, "Magnetostrictive
Probe Installation Requirements"):
a. The extra probe height will be lodged
in the riser pipe, which must be 6" longer
than the minimum in order to provide room.)
Figure 33. Magnetostrictive Probe Installation Requirements.
1 WARNING: TO AVOID ELECTRICAL SHOCK
WHICH COULD KILL YOU, BE SURE AC POWER TO
THE MONITOR IS OFF DURING INSTALLATION.
1. Turn OFF power to the EMC system.
2. Make sure any liquid other than the product to be
dispensed has been pumped out of the tank.
3. Be sure there is no sludge in the bottom of the tank.
Sludge can interfere with proper operation of the water
float.
CAUTION: HANDLE PROBES CAREFULLY! STRIKING
OR DROPPING PROBE WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF CAL -
16 AND COULD CAUSE PERMANENT
DAMAGE.
4. Attach the probe cable connector to the mating plug on
the top of the probe. Be sure the connector is attached
securely by hand tightening the locking ring on the probe
cable connector.
5. Hook the open end link of the strain relief chain to the
attachment point provided on the probe cable. Crimp the
link closed to prevent accidental detachment.
6. Place floats at bottom of probe before standing the probe
on end.
10 CAUTION: HANDLE PROBES CAREFULLY! STRIK-
ING OR DROPPING PROBE WILL RESULT IN LOSS
OF CALIBRATION AND COULD CAUSE PERMANENT
DAMAGE.
21
