WESTERN FIBERGLASS, INC. 1-800-688-3375
FIBERGLASS SUMP REPAIR PROCEDURE
If repair becomes necessary to a FRP sump because of damage or a misplaced hole or
penetration, repair can be effected easily.
If damaged, remove the damaged area by cutting out with a suitable tool; Saber saw,
Saws-All, diamond tipped cutting wheel or hole saw.
NOTE: FOLLOW ALL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES BEFORE
ENTERING OR OPERATING POWER EQUIPMENT WITHIN A SUMP.
Order replacement piece of material that is 2" larger, length and width or diameter. For
example, If you cut a 12" X 12" hole, overlay a 16" X 16" piece. If you cut a 6" diameter
hole, overlay a 10" circular piece of the same material. You must use the same material
as the sump you are repairing.
Attach repair piece with self tapping screws, supplied with piece by Western Fiberglass,
Inc. and follow the bonding procedures as outlined in the tank sump installation
instructions.
You must use the same resin and fiberglass cloth material as was used in the
manufacture of your sump. The resin and fiberglass materials used to manufacture
Western Fiberglass sumps are specifically designed for use with fuels and are not the same
as fiberglass used for boats, cars or other uses.
After positioning sumps onto tank collar or after placing reducer on sump riser tube, use disc
sander, with medium to heavy grit sand paper,to scuff up all seam areas a minimum oft"each
side of the point where the components join.It is very important that this be done fully,as the
bonding materials will not adhere to any surface which has not been sanded
BE SURE TO WEAR A
DUST MASK Brush
sanding dust from'-
seam areas.
IC"L
SEAM LAMINATIONS SfDt
Use one plastic bucket with r SAND/BOND AREA
acetone to clean roller, SusPT
brushes and squeegee.
Return tools to this bucket SAND/BOND AREA
between use to prevent TANK COLLAR — —
bonding materials from
drying on them. BE SURE TANK
TO SHAKE THE
ACETONE OUT OF
TOOLS BEFORE RE-USE.
