HORIZON ENVIRONMEN&L
Specialists in Site Assessment, Remedial Testing, Design and Operation
May 10, 2001
Mr. Mike Karvelot
Director of Environmental Affairs
Quik Stop Markets
4567 Enterprise Street
Fremont, California 94538
Subject: Results of Product Line and Dispenser Soil Sampling
Quik Stop No. 144
7272 West Lane, Stockton, California
Mr. Karvelot:
Horizon Environmental Inc. (Horizon) has prepared this letter report which documents the
results of soil sampling at the subject site located in San Joaquin County as shown on Figure
1. Soil sampling was required by the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division
(SJCEHD) as part of product lines and dispensers upgrade project. The upgrade project was
conducted by Walton Engineering, Inc. of West Sacramento, California.
Soil Sampling
The Quik Stop station is located at 7272 West Lane, as shown on Figure 2. The upgrade
project included removal two fuel dispensers and portions of the product lines. Three existing
gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs) at the site will remain in service after completion
of the upgrade project. Soil sampling activities were performed by Horizon on 23 April 2001
according to Horizon Field Methods and Procedures (Attachment A).
The dispensers and portions of the product lines had been removed prior to soil sampling. Pea
gravel backfill was still present in the trenches. The SJCEHD inspector directed collection of
soil samples from beneath former product line trenches (PL1 and PL2) and dispensers (D1 and
D2), at the locations shown on Figure 2. The soil samples were collected from hand auger
borings with a hand hammer -sampler tool fitted with a brass sleeve. Soil samples were
recovered in native soil at a depth of approximately 5 feet below surface grade (bsg) or 2 feet
below the bottom of the trench. After sample collection, the sleeve was removed from the
sampler, labeled, sealed and transported as described in the Horizon Field Methods and
Procedures.
Approximately, 6 cubic yards of soil from the new canopy post footing excavation was
stockpiled on site. Four soil samples were collected from the stockpile.
5011 Golden Foothill Parkway, Suite 7 • El Dorado Hills, CA 95762 • (916) 939-2170 • FAX (916) 939-2172
P.O, Box 5283 9 Bakersfield, CA 93388 • (661) 589-8389 • FAX (661) 589-1456
