The average product temperature is measured during the test/
data recording period by a specially constructed sensing coil .
Therefore, recorded volume changes are adjusted or compensated
for any expansion or contraction of fuel volume due to tempera-
ture changes . Product volume changes versus temperature are
calculated, using coefficient of expansion determined from table
of temperature/density. If the tank is leaking at a detectable
rate, the actual fluid volume, recorded volume corrected for
volume changes due to possible temperature change , will show a
net loss of 0.05/gallon or greater per hour of test period . The
changes in volume are reflected in level and are instantly
recorded.
4.0 Equipment Description
Descriptions of the two tank test equipment/systems are sum-
marized below:
4.1 PETRO TITE
The equipment/system can be described in three essential
functional components :
- the product circulating probe and pump;
- temperature sensor and meter; and
- the standpipe-graduate cylinder parts.
The product circulation probe is connected to a 25 gpm pump,
positioned above grade. The probe has an inflatable bladder that
makes a liquid/product seal with the inside of the fillpipe. The
-3-
