INTRODUCTION
Purpose
The primary purpose of this Site Health and Safety Plan (SHASP) is
to provide Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) field
personnel and contractors with an understanding of the potential
chemical and physical hazards that exist or may arise while the
tasks of this underground diesel storage tank removal project are
being performed. Secondarily, this information defines the safety
precautions necessary to respond to such hazards. Due to the low
hazard potential associated with diesel fuel, only Level D personal
protective equipment (PPE) will be addressed.
A copy of this SHASP will be on-site at all times. An additional
copy will be kept and transported along with any injured worker to
the medical facility (Building 877) for use by the medical staff. The
expiration date of this SHASP is May 1994.
Objective
The objective of this SHASP is to ensure the safety of all field
personnel, contractors and the surrounding community. Project
staff and approved contractors will acknowledge and adhere to the
policies and procedures established by LLNL. Accordingly, all
personnel assigned to this project will read this SHASP and sign the
Acknowledgement Statement (page i of the Closure Plan), to certify
that they have read, understand and will abide by the SHASP.
Tailgate Meetings
A tailgate meeting will be conducted by the Site Safety Officer
(SSO) prior to each day's activities to review the following:
• location of health and safety supplies on-site
• location of nearby telephones, sanitation facilities and potable water
• emergency procedures
• decontamination procedures
An Industrial Hygienist, designated by Environmental Safety and
Health (ES&H) Team 5, will attend the tailgate meeting.
SITE LOCATION
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (Site 300), Corral Hollow
Road, Building 814, Tracy, California
D-1
