CLOSURE REPORT FOR <br /> UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANKS <br /> 879-G1U1 & 879-G2U1 <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Location of underground storage tanks (USTs) 879-GlUl and 879-G2U1 (Identified by San <br /> Joaquin County as 1945-18 and 1945-19)at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory(LLNL): on <br /> the south side of Building 879,Site 300. <br /> The tanks stored unleaded gasoline for the Motor Pool. <br /> The tanks were closed because they lacked secondary containment, and are being replaced by <br /> one new 15,000-gallon fuel tank (UST 879-G3Ul), to be installed in the same hole and <br /> surrounded bypea gravel <br /> Date the tanks were removed from service: 3/17/94. <br /> Date the tank Closure Plans were each submitted to San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> on 1/21/94. <br /> Tank Volume Dimensions Construction Date of Contents <br /> (gallons) Installation <br /> 879-GlUl 8 ft.x 28 ft. Single-walled 1968 Unleaded Fuel <br /> 10,000 Carbon Steel (previously leaded) <br /> 879-G2U1 8 ft.x 32 ft. Single-walled 1975 Unleaded Fuel <br /> 10,000 Fiber lass <br /> [X] USTs 879-G1U1 and 879-G2U1 approved Closure Plan Application for Underground <br /> Tank Closure Permits enclosed as Appendix A. <br /> TANK/PIPING INFORMATION: <br /> The tank contents were recovered by: Dave Weatherall, LLNL-Hazardous Waste Management <br /> (HWM) Date:3/14-15/94. <br /> The tank contents were transported by: D-San Corp. of Hercules, CA hauled the tank contents <br /> offsite as product (4,300-gallons on 3/14/94; and 2,214-gallons on 3/15/94), with the <br /> remainder stored in a portable 4500 gallon tank. This remaining fuel was used up from the <br /> 4,500-gallon tank at Site 30012rior to using the replacement tank UST 879-G3Ul. <br /> The tank contents were disposed of as: N/A. Date: N/A. <br /> Final disposition of the tank's content: Schaffner Petroleum(Aratex Services Date:3/14-15/94 <br /> Name and address of disposal facility: Schaffner Petroleum (Aratex Services),5000 Forni Road, <br /> Concord CA <br /> [X] The Straight Bill of Ladings for USTs 879-GlUl and 879-G2U1 tank contents are enclosed <br /> as Appendix B. <br /> A representative of San Joaquin County,Mr.William Snavely was present during tank removal <br /> activities. <br /> Method of inerting: Addition of 25 lbs dry ice into each tankerp 1000 gallons;or 250 lbs each <br /> Lower explosive limit (LEL) reading or oxygen level reading within the tank prior to tank <br /> removal: The LEL for UST 879-GlU1 was 6% and the Oxygen Level was 41% <br /> The LEL for UST 879-G2U1 was 10% and the Oxygen level was 5% <br /> Name and affiliation of the person who measured the LEL reading or oxygen level reading <br /> within the tank prior to tank removal: Steve Kobel from PetroTek Also Dan Rodriguez and <br /> Jerry Ledbetter from LLNL <br /> The tanks were removed by: PetroTek(Fred Nattemkemper) Date: 3/28/94. <br /> Total length of aboveground piping removed: None. <br /> Total length of underground piping removed: 140 feet of product and vent line piping <br /> Type/diameter of aboveground piping: None. <br /> Type/diameter of underground piping: 2-inch wrapped steel12ipe <br /> 1 <br />
