the pan of the diesel dispensers.
A couple of observations we made:
The plans we have for the station are not as-builts. We recommend obtaining as-built
plans for the station to determine as exact as possible the location of the underground
storage tank(UST) system piping for the diesel dispensers and the lone unleaded
gasoline dispenser.
From examining the dispenser piping, it appears the lines may be in a trench that is 48
inches wide. We recommended cutting the concrete immediately adjacent and south
of the island of the northernmost diesel dispenser to expose the piping. This would
allow us to know exactly where the piping is located.
Also, in order to collect samples from beneath the pan of the dispenser, we would
need to open a 12-inch square of concrete, hand-push the geoprobe boring rod with
the sampler through the pea gravel. We would hand-push the sampler so we would
know if we made any contact with a subsurface object. We would hand-push the
sampler to a maximum of 25 to 30 degree angle to native material, hook up the
geoprobe unit and direct-push the sampler to depth.
To advance the sampler to 5 feet bsg with an angle of 30 degrees, the angled depth
would be approximately 6 feet and the distance from the surface entry of the probe
would be 3 feet. In order to clear the UST piping, the probe at 5 feet bsg would be
within 2 feet of directly beneath the pan. This is the best case scenario. What is the
maximum lateral distance from the directly beneath the pan the sample can be
collected? If the sample must be collected directly beneath the pan, what is the
minimum vertical depth acceptable?
Best regards,
Art
Arthur Deicke
Operations Manager/Project Scientist
Advanced GeoEnvironmentai,Inc.
Stockton ® Santa Rosa ® MontereyBrea
Direct line (Stockton): 209-323-6497
1-800-511-9300
adeicke@adygeoenV.com
www.4dygeoenv.com
This email message is for the sole use of the intended recipient(s)and may contain confidential and
privileged information.Any unauthorized review, use, disclosure or distribution of this email/fax is
prohibited. If you are not the intended recipient, please contact the sender by email/fax and destroy all
paper and electronic copies of the original message.
3/12/2009
