I do not believe we had any double wall sump reference on our plans. The
double wall reference you may be referring to is in the UL letter, whereby, they were referring to their testing of the sumps and they
indicated the double wall was constructed with the same material as the single wall sumps. The manufacturer recommends the use of UV
coating and we agree.
There is not a UL approval for the above ground application, but it has been an industry standard. The UL letter I provided to you
indicates the testing that was done for the product and the materials used in the product. The letter further went on to indicate that the
product is suitable for UL listing. Fiberglass transition sumps were developed using the same penetration fittings and materials that were
used for tank sumps. Since the fiberglass tank sumps had already proven that they could be tested and the materials were compatible
With the fuel, it was a logical extension to make transition sumps out of the same materials, using the same penetration fittings.
Fiberglass transition sumps have been widely used in the industry and in many counties, including San Joaquin, in making the transition
from underground to above ground fuel piping for the past8 or 9 years. The ease with which fiberglass transition sumps can be installed
to provide acceptable test and containment results, have made them the industry standard for piping transitions.
Hopefully, this clarifies the information regarding UL approval and the industry use of the fiberglass products as transition sumps.
Mike Robertson
ROBERTSON ENGINEERING, inc.
2300 Elethards Drive, Suite L
Santa Rosa, CA 95405
Phone: (707)523.7490
Fax: (707)523.7499
Email: mike@robertsQnen-gine-e n -q ne
From: Kasey Foley [EH] [mailto:KFoley@sjcehd.com]
Sent: Monday, May 09, 20113:49 PM
To: Mike Robertson; Thuy Tran [EH]
Subject: RE: TRACY TRUCK & AUTO
I reviewed your email and am confused by it. The sentence below implies you submitted an attachment that shows the Western Fiberglass transition sump has an approved UV
coating but I did not find that written anywhere:
"I have also attached the UL letter to Western Fiberglass for their sump. The above ground portion and lid have an approved UV coating
application, also provided by Western Fiberglass."
Also, the Western Fiberglass approval you submitted was for the double -walled sump but that isn't the cut sheet that was submitted to us. It shows a single -walled sump.
Do you have a UL approval for any portion of this sump to be used aboveground?
Thank you.
Kasey Foley, REHS
Program Coordinator
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
600 East Main Street
Stockton, CA 95202-3029
(209)468-3451
kfo11 (a sicehd.com
------ -- - - — ---- - -_- ___ _,_._.-..
From: Mike Robertson [ma:lto:mike@robertsonengineering.net]
Sent: Monday, May 09, 20113:28 PM
To: Kasey Foley [EH]; Thuy Tran [EH]
Subject: TRACY TRUCK & AUTO
Hi Kasey & Thuy,
CJ and Chuck have been calling each day to see if you have approved the plan & Elite IV can pick up the Permit.
