C5. Fiberglass Reservoir Sensor (con't)
For RS -10 Reservoir Sensors:
• Pipe fitting connections provide quick, easy access to
sensor and reservoir without disconnecting any electri-
cal or piping connections.
• Sensor includes riser pipe cap with a length of flexible
conduit which is connected to a NEMA 4 or NEMA 6
electrical junction box (contractor supplied).
• PVC riser pipe cap slips on and off the PVC fitting in-
stalled on top of riser pipe.
Fiberglass Reservoir Normal Installation Detail
/ Concrete Traffic pad
Riser Pipe Cap
Junction Box
and Fitting'
Conduit to
Riser Pipe Control Panel
Reseryoir Sensor
High Level Alarm
FRP Reservoir
Low Level Alarm
Double -Wall Tank
' Ensure tour 1/8" or 1/4" holes for vent
For Extreme High Groundwater Conditions
• In order to prevent the intrusion of groundwater in the
reservoir:
❑ Plug the factory drilled vent holes (4) in PVC riser cap.
❑ Install a separate vent line from riser pipe to above
ground.
❑ Glue the PVC riser pipe to riser pipe fitting.
Fiberglass Reservoir Installation Detail
for Extreme High Water Conditions Concrete Traffic pad
Reservoir Vent
to Grade
tr tDrilledHoles
FRP Reservoir
Double -Wall Tank
Optional RM Reservoir Monitor:
• Optional sensor requires no electrical power source.
• Sensor includes riser pipe cap with electronics and bat-
tery pack.
• Riser pipe cap slips on and off PVC fitting which is
installed on top of contractor supplied riser pipe.
• The internal, replaceable power source is a battery with a
5 -year estimated life. This should be tested periodically.
• To test, simply push button on top of cap. Light shows
green for liquid in reservoir, red for no liquid in reser-
voir. No light indicates loss of battery power.
16
C6. Electrical
AWARNING
• Do not place intrinsically safe sensor wiring in the same
conduit as non -intrinsically safe wiring.
DO
• Make certain all electrical work conforms to local codes.
• Wire reservoir sensor to the control panel using wiring
specified on control panel wiring diagram.
CAUTION: Place wiring in water tight conduit and junc-
tion boxes (to maintain leak detection capability).
C7. Testing
To simulate low liquid level condition:
• Remove sensor from fiberglass reservoir.
To activate low level alarm:
• Remove sensor from fluid in reservoir.
To activate high level alarm:
• Fully immerse sensor into a bucket of water.
C8. Reservoir Leak Detection
What to do for an alarm condition:
• Remove the riser cap.
• Extract reservoir sensor.
• Use dipstick to measure reservoir liquid level:
❑ If dipstick measurement is 1.25" (2" for tanks 15,000
gallon capacity or larger) or less, reservoir has
drained, indicating a low level alarm.
❑ If dipstick measurement is 14" or higher, the high
level alarm has been activated.
For a Low Level Alarm:
• Refill the reservoir to 1/2 full.
• Continue monitoring.
For a High Level Alarm:
• Remove liquid from reservoir until it is %2 full.
• Continue monitoring.
If alarm occurs and reservoir level is normal:
• Consult your local electrician.
❑ Control panel is improperly wired or has a defec-
tive component.
• See section D9 on Control Panel False Alarms.
Important: If a second low level or high level alarm
occurs, call Fluid Containment Field Service. Phone
number listed on page 2.
is
•
•
