The Report was
submitted to Geotracker and has some deficiencies. The EHD notified your consultant, AGE
that the report was denied for public review on Geotracker (California State Water Resources
Control Board's internet database) because of the deficiencies. Corrections are to be made and
the report must be re-submitted to Geotracker by September 12, 2008.
,I
l No contaminants were detected in the five soil vapor probes installed and sampled during this
phase. The findings suggest that the residual petroleum hydrocarbons dissolved in the shallow
ground water and the contaminants adsorbed in the soils from 5 feet and 10 feet below ground
surface ('bgs) are not volatilizing and migrating upward.
The soil, soil vapor, and ground water sample data were evaluated against the San Francisco l+
I Bay Regional Water Quality'Control Board (SFBRWQCB), Environmental Screening Levels
(ESL). Benzene concentrations inthe sample from boring B6-5 exceeded ESLs for direct
exposure. This indicates that if there was human contact with this soil there may be a health
1 risk.
Only soil and soil vapor results should be evaluated using the SFBRWQCB-ESLs. The soil
sample results should be evaluated only for direct exposure and gross contamination. When
the ESLs are exceeded, the protection of human health must be addressed. This may be done
by cleaning up the contamination or providing technical justification for allowing it to remain in
place.
Ground water samples collected on February 13, 2008 from MW-5 contained elevated
concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline, (TPHg) and low concentrations of
! benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX). This was the first time this well contained l
r any TPHg or BTEX. More recent sampling events conducted on May 9 and July 16, 2008,
showed that the water samples from MW-5 were again non-detect for the contaminants tested.
r
i
