T
vapors will be by activated carbon adsorption. VET proposes to use three
2000 pound net activated carbon adsorption reactors in series to adsorb all
of the gasoline constituents from the extracted well vapors prior to venting
these vapors to the atmosphere.
The vapor extraction system will be permitted by variance and as a modified
system under full permit in accordance with the San Joaquin County Air
Pollution Control District. The variance application ,will be submitted
prior to assembly of the vacuum blower systems, electrical wiring, and vapor
treatment systems.
VET will provide turn-key services to operate, monitor, and maintain the
vapor extraction system. Following initial start-up operation of the
system, VET will monitor and maintain the VES twice a month to verify the
systems performance, monitor and adjust flows to each of the vapor
extraction wells, modify the configuration' of the vapor extraction system,
and to replace the activated carbon adsorption''systems as required.
s
VET proposes eleven tasks to perform the work described above which are
outlined below:
Task 1 - Pre-field Site Activities
1.1 Prepare a detailed work plan.
1.2 Prepare a Site Health and Safety Plan.
1.3 Discuss the design and operation of the system with Southland
personnel.
TASK 2 - Modify Monitoring Wells and Manifold to VES
2.1 Cut, and remove asphalt for underground piping.
2.2 Install vapor conduit and re-compact fill materials.
2.3 Replace excavated asphalt with either.'concrete or asphalt.
2.4 Install traffic rated well boxes.
2.5 Modify well heads for vapor extraction)and install valves.
Task 3 - Design the Vapor Extraction and Treatment System
3.1 Prepare design specifications for equipment.
t:
3.2 Submit design of vapor extraction isystem 'to Southland personnel for
review.
VAPOR EXTRACTION TECHNOLOGY
i
