05
7-ii/Stockton 8
April 1989
WORK STEPS
The following work steps are proposed to further define the
extent of the petroleum hydrocarbon plume:
o Obtain the required permits from the San Joaquin County
Local Health District for drilling soil borings and
constructing monitoring wells.
a Drill and install monitoring wells and monitorii:,j well
nests. Monitoring wells will be constructed as
described below:
Boreholes will be drilled using a truck-mounted, 10.5-
inch-diameter, hallow-stem auger drill rig following
GTI's Standard operating Procedures (SOPs) (Appendix Y) ,
and continuous cores will be collected to obtain an
accurate subsurface profile. The shallow borings will
- be advanced approximately 15-feet below the water table
for the individual monitoring wells. The borings for
_ the monitoring well nests will be advanced to various
depths, with the deepest expected to be approximately
35-feet below the water table. Based on data from the
µ existing wells, the depth-to-water is expected to be
approximately 35- -to 40-feet below the ground surface.
During drilling, samples will be collected at 5-foot
_-- intervals from the soil cores to be field screened for
volatile hydrocarbon concentrations using a portable
photo-ionization detector (PID) . For the off-site
borings, three samples from each boring, and three
samples from each set of borings (well nest) will be
submitted to the laboratory for analyses of benzene,
- `
GROUNDWATER
TECHNOLOGY,INC.
