I <br /> IClosure Report May 21, 1993 <br /> Southland Site No 20680, 9110 Thornton Road, Stockton, CA 6 <br /> 32 Soil Borings <br /> On January 12 through 14 and February 18, 1993, Groundwater Technology drilled nine soil borings <br /> (A through G, I, and J) using a truck-mounted drill rig equipped with 7 25-inch-diameter hollow-stem <br /> Iaugers (Figure 4) Copies of the soil boring and abandonment permits are presented in Appendix B <br /> The sod borings were drilled to depths of approximately 45 feet below grade to comply with the <br /> Proposal to Implement Site ClganuQ Confirmgtion, dated July 7, 1992 Originally, 10 soil borings to <br /> 45 feet below grade were proposed, however, during marking of soil boring locations for <br />' Underground Safety Alert, it was concluded that the proposed location for Sod Boring H was too <br /> dose to a fence and to a ditch filled with water In a discussion between a Groundwater Technology <br /> representative and Michael Infurna of the SJPHS, it was agreed that Soil Boring H could be omitted <br />' from the closure investigation because a sufficient number of soil bonngs were being drilled <br />' On February 18, 1993, Soil Boring J was drilled to 45 5 feet below grade to evaluate the soil <br /> conditions beneath the product lines Sod samples were collected at 5-foot intervals The location <br /> of Soil Boring J is approximately the same as that of soil sample TRENCH-2 collected on September <br /> 17, 1991, during the removal of the product lines and USTs Analytical results of soil sample <br /> TRENCH-2 reported TPH-G concentrations of 2,1000 ppm on September 17, 1992 The locations of <br /> the confirmation sod borings are illustrated in Figure 4 Drill logs of Soil Borings A through G, 1, and <br /> J are included in Appendix C Field notes are included in Appendix D <br /> 1 <br /> The drill augers were steam cleaned before each sod boring A field geologist, under the supervision <br />' of a California Registered Geologist, maintained a log of the materials encountered during drilling <br /> using the Unified Soil Classification System The soil from the borings was placed on and covered <br />' with plastic sheets after composite soil samples were collected for waste characterization The soil <br /> was classified as nonhazardous On February 26, 1993, the soil was transported by Integrated <br /> t Waste Management, Inc to the City of Mountain View Public Landfill, a Gass III landfill located in <br /> Mountain View, California <br /> 12„RO13 <br /> I GROUNDWATER <br /> __ J TECHNOLOGY, INC <br />
