Additionally, analytical results for the
sample SW 1 obtained from the sidewall of the excavation revealed a TPH-gasoline concentration
of 4.1 mg/kg. Analytical results for all soil samples revealed Total Lead concentrations ranging
from 6.0 mg/kg to 9.3 mg/kg and no detectable concentrations of EDB.
Analytical results for Stockpile 1 composite samples STK1A-D revealed a TPH-gasoline
concentration of 0.79 mglkg and Total Lead concentrations of 11 mg/kg.
Analytical results for samp=1111?1112om water in the excavation, revealed TPH-
gasoline concentrations of Total Lead concentrations ranging from
10 jcglP to 31 µg1f and nof EDB.
Concentrations of TPH-gasoline revealed in soil sample 72b and water sample W2, were
reported by the analytical laboratory as a product not typical of gasoline. Mr. Joel Kiff, senior
chemist at the laboratory, revealed that the constituents reported as "not typical gasoline" are
probably the more volatile constituents of diesel.
Analytical results for the soil samples are summarized in Table 1; analytical, results for the water
samples are summarized in Table 2. Complete laboratorytest results and chain-of-custody
documentation are attached.
Conclusions & Recommendations
Our `observations during tank removal and the laboratory analyses indicate-that the soils beneath
the former USTs and the sidewalls of the excavation have been contaminated with petroleum
hydrocarbons. Based on field observations and laboratory analysis, excavation of the remaining
soil contamination may be cost effective. Additionally, we recommend that a pump truck be
brought to the site to remove the obviously contaminated water from the former UST excavation;
the water will be taken to an oil separating-faciiity for treatment. Following removal of the
contaminated water, we recommend taking two additional samples of the water to evaluate the
effectiveness of the pumping operation. These water samples, as well as any soil samples
IWALLACE•KUHL
Fr ASSOCIATES INC.
