Report of Secondary Investigation 4 <br /> Prepared for Barbara Drake,26485 Thornton Rd ,Thornton,CA May 4,1995 <br /> Standard "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (29 CFR 1910 120) <br /> The document was reviewed and signed by all Groundwater Technology personnel and subcontractors <br /> prior to commencement of work at the site <br /> 36 Access Agreements/Permitting <br /> Access agreements were procured from the current site owner to allow unlimited access to the <br /> property for environmental investigation purposes A dnlling/monitoring well installation permit was <br /> obtained from the SJCPHS-EHD In addition, an encroachment permit was obtained from the <br /> San Joaquin County Department of Public Works for drilling to the County right-of-way Copies of <br /> permits are included in Appendix B <br /> 4.0 FIELD ACTIVITIES <br /> Field activities were conducted at the site on February 16 and 17, 1995 Field activities consisted of soil <br /> coring and sampling, installation of temporary wells to the bonngs,groundwater sampling, and <br /> borehole backfilling <br /> 41 Soil and Groundwater Sampling <br /> Soil and groundwater were sampled at ten bonngs (131 through B10) Ten 2 5-inch diameter bonngs <br /> were cored to 15-16 feet below ground surface (BGS) using a hydraulically driven STRATAPROBE <br /> direct penetration sampling ng Boring B2 was hand augered due to the presence of overhead lines <br /> Soil samples were collected from each boring at 5-foot intervals during drilling, beginning at <br /> approximately 5 feet BGS Samples were collected using a 2 5-inch O D split-spoon sampler, lined <br /> with three 2-inch-diameter by 6-inch-long brass sample tubes The sampler was driven 18 inches <br /> ahead of the augers at each sample point Samples in B2 were collected using a slide hammer <br /> sampler with extensions and a 2-inch-diameter by 6-inch-long sampling tip Drilling equipment was <br /> steam cleaned between each boring,and sampling equipment was washed between each sampling <br /> interval Soil samples were field screened for hydrocarbon vapors using a photo-jonization detector <br /> (PID) Soil was logged using the Unified Soil Classification System by a Groundwater Technology field <br /> geologist working under the supervision of a California registered geologist (Appendix C) One sample <br /> tube from each 5-foot interval was sealed, labeled and placed on ice in an insulated container <br /> Groundwater samples were collected from temporary wells installed in the bonngs The temporary <br /> wells were constructed of 15 feet of 1 5-inch diameter PVC casing and slotted PVC well screen <br /> Samples were collected by lowering a small diameter stainless steel bailer into the casing The bailer <br /> was decontaminated between each borehole using a detergent(alconox)/water solution and <br /> distilled-water-tnple-nnse process All groundwater samples were submitted for laboratory analysis <br />• 0053EAR RPT <br /> ❑C1� GROUNDWATER <br /> ❑❑❑ TECHNOLOCY a <br />
