HIGHWAY 33, TRACY, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
In a 7 February 2008 letter requesting a Work Plan for soil and groundwater investigation of
the former aerial pesticide applicator facility, California Regional Water Quality Control Board,
Central Valley Region (Regional Water Board) staff noted that three monitoring wells were
known to have existed at the site in 1991. Regional Water Board staff requested that Trinkle
& Boys locate the monitoring wells and destroy them. Alternatively, Trinkle & Boys may
provide documentation that the wells have been properly destroyed. To date, no records of
their destruction have been located.
The wells were not observed during a 4 March 2008 site visit, and in a 12 June 2008
telephone conversation, Ms. Rebecca Natal of Advanced GeoEnvironmental reiterated that a
more thorough visual search for the monitoring wells did not reveal any indications of their
presence. Regional Water Board staff is concerned about potentially leaving open boreholes
in the subsurface that could transfer pollutants from above-ground activities to groundwater.
Trinkle & Boys must conduct a more thorough search for the monitoring wells before the
investigation is completed. Non-intrusive subsurface geophysical techniques are available
that could identify if open boreholes are present. The methodology and results of the search
may be submitted separately from the soil and groundwater investigation data, or it may be
combined into a single report.
