IL
Chevron Products Company 3
Chevron SS4 9-8264,3775 Tracy Boulevard,Tracy,CA December 29, 1997
Proposed Scope of Work
The scope of work will include: 1) a County records review on nearby sites; 2) records
research and review of Chevron's historical files for the subject site; 3) the drilling of 3
soil borings to an approximate depth of 40 feet; 4)preparation of geologic cross
sections, 5) a search of onsite underground utilities and offsite water wells within 1/2-
mile (if not previously conducted); and 6) preparation of a report summarizing the
above information. Groundwater is expected to be encountered at 9-112 feet bgs.
As required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Standard
"Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (29 CFR
1910.120), and by California Occupational Health and Safety Administration
(Cal-OSHA) "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (CCR
Title 8, Section 5192), SECOR will prepare a Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan. The
Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan will be reviewed by the field staff and contractors
before beginning field operations at the site.
The specific scope of work is discussed below:
• Records Review. SECOR will conduct a review of San Joaquin County records
concerning past activities and environmental investigation at the subject site and sites in
the surrounding area. Chevron's files will be reviewed for the subject site. Aerial
photographs of the area to document past land usage will also be reviewed, if available.
• Soil Boring Locations. Three soil borings will be drilled offsite to depths of
approximately 40 feet bgs. These borings will be drilled along the east side of Tracy
Boulevard (within the City right-of-way)to evaluate the lateral and vertical extent of
gasoline hydrocarbons and MtBE in the soil and groundwater. The locations of the
proposed borings are shown in Figure 1. Depth discrete soil and groundwater samples
will be collected from each of the borings. Groundwater is expected to be encountered
at approximately 9-112 feet bgs. Continuous core sampling will be performed in the
boring directly east of the site. The other two borings will be sampled at 5-foot depth
intervals from the surface to the bottom of the boring. A clay was identified previously
at a depth of 26 feet bgs. If this clay is found to be continuous in the area of the
proposed borings, groundwater "grab" samples will be obtained from above and below
this clay within the three borings utilizing the procedures outlined in Attachment A. If a
clay layer is not encountered in the borings, one groundwater "grab" sample will be
collected from each boring prior to backfilling the boring with "neat" cement grout.
• Soil and Groundwater Sample Selection and Analysis. Selected soil samples
will be submitted for analysis at a California State-certified laboratory. Soil and
