r
r
Y7e11 No '2 , located at `tyre south end entrance ramp to ,
the
excavation, h<as been partially dug out by excavating,
equipment . This was shown :in' the February 1 , 1990 report! by
Iii.inter and 'Associates. in'=pliot.ographs of the excavation .
These photographs are, not being reproduced herein because of j
the problem of color reproduction. The drilling log of MW
2 is attached .. On this illustration, the approximate depth
of excavation and-the top, of.the. pipe stub are shown. The
depths cannot ,be accurately fixed because all surveys. used d
an arbitrary referenpe. elevati.on. The bottom of the pipe ex-
cavation and
xcavation" and the -top of the stub were inferred by
correlating the photographs in Figures 10 and 12 of the
2/1/90 report with the. lithology shown ori the GT1 well log .
Although almost one half of the cemented pipe has been re-
moved, an adequate seal shorild stiII exist and the pipe and
stub will be buried under. about 1.0 feet of soil when the
1 excavation is refilled . A small amount of grout '.pWar.;ed ..w"
around the base of tl-re pipe stub when it is being filled p
1 . with grout: could help prevent the establishmerit , of a,conduit P
by channeling.
At Well # 3, the northerly well , the pipe stub and grout.
sheath cannot be seen and the pipe protruding from the f
ground might not be: screw connected to the well pipe .
Therefore', it is recommended that the pipe be dug out until
the cement sheath is located and then tale well be plugged f
with grout and a base cap he poured around the stub . r
With the additional work rioted above, it: is believed that E
the groundwater can be adequately protected by filling the
cas;iricrs with grout . Excavation of tIt o entire: we11 pipe ;
grout sheath, liner etc , is riot believed to be warranted 'by '?
-this writer, and if done ; would riot necessarily 'provide any
more protection , than the methods suggested above .
Very truly yours , ' .. . .
'< "
i 1
Dennis R. Allen
For: Hunter & .Associates
i
