Figure 9 has two photographs , the upper being a view of the Spoil
pile ff 3 location, which material was returned to the excavation.
The lower photograph shows a drain pipe remnant arid a lesser
entry rarnp and terrace on the west sid4 of the excavation. Ero-
sion features from rain are obvious .
EXCAVAT 1 OId GEOLOGY
Figure 10 has two photographs of the partially filled excavation,
as of 1 /11/90. The upper view looks north down the main entry
rarnp, the lower , an interior view of the excavation looking
south. Pooling of rain water can Eye seen (the bottom of the pit
is now well above the water table) , along with numerous tires
thrown from the spoil piles into the excavation by vandals . The
almost flat lying nature of the mediun to fine-grained sands from
about -8 ' to -20' g. l . can be seen. laving to slumping caused by
the unconsolidated nature of the beds on the north end and sides
of the excavation, this bed could not be followed all the way
around. The upper view reveals the erosion and slumping of the
walls which is occurring.
Figure it has two close-up views of the medium to fine-grained,
-rev to either reddish-stained or light brown sand, which is des-
cribed in the auger hole. borings by GTI and is shown on cross
sections 3 & 4, Appendix fl 7 . The sand is found from about 8 to
-10 feet below g. l . to 20 to 24 feet below g. l . As seen in the
excavation, the bed has a sharply defined top that is more uni-
form than that shown on the cross sections . It also has very
distinct cross bedding, vvhich is somewhat difficult to see in the
photographs. The cross bedding is outlined with very thin layers
of f;negrained, black, ferro-rrmagnesium sand. Small cross beds
such as :hese are common fluvial deposits .
MaNITOR ING WELLS
The tops of the three groundwater monitoring wells, installed by
GTI , Appendix A-7, are shown in the photographs in Figure A-12.
JTO reported that all three wells had been plumbed subsequent to
having been sheared during the excavation process. Monitoring
well (A11V) I was found to be dry , presurneably owing to soil fall -
ing down the pipe. The top of \11C'-3 has beer, replaced and a screw
cap added to it.
A reference point at each well was established and vertical ]}'
leveled using an arbitrary bench mark placed in the asphalt
driveway, With an assun-med elevation of W&ISL, taken from Figure
.-..... _-.No. .....I ..._These..ele-va-t.i-ons.-.a.re...g.iven.-..o.n...>=iburc
Darlene Reuss , DHS, on 1 /5/1990 ,vas contacted by telephone and
permission vvas requested to -eater purge the plugged -yell , using
Citv of Lodi municipal water .
