History of Site : The site is situated in the north central portion of the
San Joaqdin Valley on flat, low lying fluvial deposits consisting of gravels, sands
and clay deposited by the Mokelumne River system. The Mokelumne River flows approx-
imately 750 feet to the north. Site elevation is approximately SO feet above mean
sea level. It is estimated that groundwater will be encountered at 30 to 40 feet
below grade.
Local domestic water is supplied by a municipal water supply system. There are
three non-operating industrial water supply wells located within the boundaries of the
site (see enclosed Site Plan). The City of Lodi is presently supplying sanitary sewage
hook up to private residences in the vicinity of the site.
The site has been in use as a winery from 1909 and was subsequently decommissioned
in 1984. The on site storage tank has been used to store both bunker oil and diesel
fuel for use in the winery boiler plant. During initial site demolition a concrete
underground storage tank with an approximate volum_ne_ot_l5,OOD--gallons--was-removed
(see Reference A). During the tank removal physical evidence of soil contamination
was noted. At that time approximately 4000 cubic yards of soil was excavated. All
excavated soils were.stockpiled on site with the contaminated soils segregated.
