Turner Road, Lodi, CA
There are no tank test or product reconciliation records available and no
estimate of product loss can be made: The depth and lateral extent of impacted soil
could not be estimated using the data available to that date. Consequently, Ground-
water Technology, Inc. did a comprehensive environmental site analysis. A copy of
which is enclosed. After reading the G.T.I. report, demolishing the buildings, and
submitting a clean up plan to SJLHD the owners made the decision to reexcavate and
attempt to clean the affected area of contamination. During this reexcavation the
contamination was obvious by sight and smell. The clean up was done by starting at
the edges of the previous excavation and moving outward and downward until no more
evidence of the contamination was found. After reaching the obvious end of this
contamination, to make sure all was removed, the excavation was extended at least 5
feet past the end of the contamination in all directions. The contamination appeared
- to be tear drop in shape and followed a very symetrical pattern in a circle approx-
imately 100 feet in diameter at the widest point, narrowing to approximately 60 feet
in diameter at the very bottom. The soil smelled very strong of diesel fuel and had
a dark brown color to within approximately 1 foot of the last evidence of the contam-
ination found. The last foot consisted of sandy material and a heavy concentration of
heavy bunker oil. This was cleaned away and added to the pile of contaminated soil.
Following our plan, we then removed approximately another 5 feet of soil under the
last evidence of contamination and then encountered groundwater, which has now partially
filled the excavation.
We have stockpiled and separated all of the excavated soil. The contaminated
soil is on site in two locations. The largest pile is from the second excavation and
is located on the southeast corner of the.property, on a concrete slab of approximately
one acre in-_size It-is-on_plast_ic_and-coyer-ed_with-plastic.----It—is-approximately-- - --- --
4 4000 cubic yards in volume.
The smaller pile is located in the north central portion of the property and is
on a paved asphalt slab, on plastic and covered with plastic. It is approximately
