KLEINFELDER
6 CONCLUSTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
61 CONCLUSIONS
' Groundwater elevations ranged from a maximum of 2 65 feet above mean sea level (msl) at
MW-4 to 134 feet above msl at MW-2 Depth to water at the four wells was measured within the
range of 38 34 to 37 45 feet bgs Groundwater flow direction was calculated towards the
' southwest with an approximate gradient of 0 004 ft/ft
No product or sheen was observed from groundwater monitoring wells MW-2, MW-3, and MW-
' 4 Approximately four inches of floating product and a strong petroleum-like odor was noted in
the groundwater from monitoring well MW-1
' TPH-D, TPH-G, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes were detected in groundwater samples collected
from MW-1, Iocated approximately 10 feet down-gradient of the UST area TPH-D was detected
at concentrations of 350 mg/l and TPH-G at 6 4 mg/l Ethylbenzene was detected from
' groundwater samples collected from MW-1 at concentrations of 2 1 µg/l, while total xylenes
were reported at concentrations of 1 5 ug/1 None of the requested analytes were detected in the
groundwater collected from the down-gradient monitoring wells, MW-2 and MW-3, nor from the
upgradient well MW-4 -
The concentration of ethylbenzene found in MW-1 (2 1 µg/l) was found to be well below the
State and Federal Primary Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) for ethylbenzene which is 700
µg/1 The concentration of total xylenes (1 5 ug/1) was also below the State Primary MCL of
' 1750 ug/l
Based on the information obtained, it is Kleinfelder's opinion that the groundwater contaminant
plume is located the vicinity of MW-1 and the existing UST It appears the contamination plume
is mostly contained within p erimeter m onitonng w ells M W-2, M W-3 a nd M W-4 D uring t he
third quarter 2002 sampling event, TPH-D was not detected in the groundwater samples from the
' down-gradient well MW-2, supporting the idea that the trace concentration reported in the
previous quarter was due to error or is an anomaly Additional sampling events should be
conducted to assess the potential of contaminants by MW-2
' 18748 T02/ST02R795
' 0 2011 Klemfelder, Inc December 3,2002
