r
1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
r
This is a report of Kleinfelder's Monitoring Well Installation and Sampling, Pre-Abandonment
Underground Storage Tank Assessment conducted at the General Mills Facility located at 2000
West Turner Road in Lodi, California Mr Wade Broughton retained Kleinfelder to conduct
the assessment based upon Kleinfelder's proposal titled "Proposal/Cost Estimate, Monitoring
Well Installation, General Mills Facility, 2000 West Turner Road, Lodi, California," dated May
2, 2000
rA single monitoring well (MW-1) was installed near an existing, non-operating underground
storage tank (UST) at the General Mills facility (See Plate 1) The existing 10,000 gallon UST
' previously contained at one time #1 Diesel, #2 Diesel, Kerosene, and JP-4 Jet Fuel During
advancement of the soil boring groundwater was encountered about 34 feet below ground
surface (bgs) The monitoring well was advanced vertically to a depth of approximately 45 feet
bgs and screened from 25 to 45 feet
Soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals beginning at 5 feet bgs A total of 9 soil samples
' were collected from boring MW-1 Petroleum-like odors were noted in soil samples collected
at depths ranging from 15 to 40 feet bgs The soil samples selected for analysis were collected
at approximate depths of 20 and 30 feet bgs A total of 2 soil samples and a single groundwater
sample collected from MWA were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as referenced to
diesel (TPH-D) and benzene, toluene ethylbenzene, total xylenes(BTEX)
Both of the soil samples collected at approximate depths of 20 and 30 feet bgs had reported
concentrations of TPH-D at 3,770 mg/kg and 2,880 mg/kg, respectively (carbon range C10 to
C16) BTEX constituents were not detected at or above laboratory reporting limits in these two
' soil samples The groundwater sample collected from MW-1 had a TPH-D concentration of
46 8 mg/l Two BTEX constituents, ethylbenzene and total xylenes were also detected in this
groundwater sample at 4 88 and 4 17 µg11, respectively For a summary of the results obtained,
' please refer to Tables 1 and 2 in the Appendix of this report Based upon the data collected, the
extent of contamination is unknown
' A copy of this report should be submitted to the San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Department, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) and the State of California, Central
Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) for their review and comment
This report and the conclusions and recommendations presented, are subject to the
"Limitations" presented in Chapter 7 of this report Anyone other than the client, who wishes
w to use this document must complete the "Application for Authorization to Use" which is
included as an appendix to this report
' 20-1417-16 E02/2000R578 July 28, 2000
©2000 Klecnfelder, Inc Page 1 of l 1
KI 11iA'f I L I)CR _'fi_'i E is[M1 Tth slit t I slit(k1w) C A 9105, -179 4 I2(),)) 1)-;8 1 1 15 (2U9) 94h 0621 I tv
