05 June 2008
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0141
3.1. CPT ADVANCEMENT
CPT sounding boring CPT2 will be advanced to a depth of 130 feet bsg or until refusal is
encountered, utilizing a 25-ton truck-mounted CPT drill rig equipped with 2-inch diameter
hollow-stem rods. CPT2 will utilize a hydraulic ram to advance a cone penetrometer to the desired
depth. Soil parameters such as cone bearing, sleeve friction, and pore water pressure will be
measured as the cone penetrometer is advanced.Rinseate generated during drilling activities will be
containerized in properly labeled Department of Transportation(DOT)-approved 55-gallon drums,
and stored on-site in an area lacking public access. Disposal alternatives will be evaluated at a later
date based on laboratory results of rinseate.
3.2. CPT GROUND WATER SAMPLING
Grab ground water samples will be collected using a HydroPunch sample tool that will be pushed
into specified zones, then withdrawn approximately three feet to expose an inlet screen. The interior
of the sampling tool fills with water, and a 1-inch outer diameter stainless steel bailer will be lowered
and utilized to extract a ground water sample. All rinseate generated during drilling activities will
be containerized in properly labeled DOT-approved 55-gallon drums, and stored on-site in an area
lacking public access.
Following sample collection, samples will be transferred to laboratory-supplied containers, properly
labeled and placed in a chilled container to be transported under chain of custody to a
CDPH-certified laboratory for analysis.
3.3. MONITORING WELL PILOT BORING DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLING
The soil boring will be advanced utilizing a truck-mounted,hollow-stem drill rig and 8-inch diameter
hollow-stem augers. Cuttings and rinseate generated during drilling activities will be containerized
in properly labeled DOT-approved 55-gallon drums, and stored on-site in an area lacking public
access. Disposal alternatives will be evaluated based on the results of soil and water analysis.
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals, beginning at a depth of 70 feet bsg, utilizing a
California split-spoon sampler and brass sleeves. The sampler will be driven by dropping a
140-pound weight from a height of 30 inches. The number of blows it takes to collect the samples
will be recorded on boring logs.Upon soil sample retrieval, the middle brass sleeve will be removed
from the sampler. The ends of the brass sleeve will be immediately covered with Teflon sheets,
sealed with plastic end caps, secured with tape, and placed in a chilled container for transportation
under chain of custody to a CDPH-certified laboratory. Each sample sleeve will be labeled with the
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
