PHASE I ENVIRONMENTAL SrM ASSESSMENT AND SOIL SAMPLING REPORT
Lodi,Califomia
Shell Purchase Order No.
Delta Project No. 40-90-838
Page S
i_
• Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board Tank Tracking System-=Updated April 1990.
The site named Charley Jacobs mentioned previously on the Cortese List also appears on the
Regional Board List. Lead was found in the soil on the site but ground water was not impacted.
c
4.0 ENVIRONMENTAL SETTING
The site lies within the Great Valley geomorphic province at an elevation of approximately 9 feet above
mean sea level (MSL) as depicted on the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Terminous, California,
Quadrangle map, dated 1978. The geologic materials beneath the region consist primarily of stream and
Delta plain deposits of the San Joaquin River and its tributaries (Norris and Webb, 1976). These deposits
are predominantly comprised of interbedded clay, silt, and sand.
A regional map showing the ground water elevation contours for the unconfined aquifer for Spring.1989,
prepared by the San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District, indicates that ground
water should flow towards the northwest. Based on the subsurface data obtained during the site
investigation, depth to ground Water is approximately 14 feet below ground surface.
5.0 RESULTS OF INVESTIGATION
13
5.1 Site Reconnaissance 1
On Friday,November 9, 1990,a site reconnaissance was performed by Delta. The parcel consists of vacant
land on which an irrigation ditch flows east to west. The ditch has a I0-foot-wide base and is 4 feet deep.
Along the western boundary of3the site where the ditch exits the property, there is a 3-foot-diameter culvert
embedded in a concrete benchl A USGS bench mark is located on the northern end of the bench and is
identified as D464. The northern boundary of the property is fenced. There were no other objects or
structures identified on the site.
5.2 Geology and Drilling
On November 9, 1990, three soil borings (SB-1 through SB-3) were drilled on site to an average depth of
14 feet below ground surface. 'Soil borings were randomly placed across the property to cover upgradient
and downgradient conditions. Soil boring locations are shown in Figure 3.
