Box 2009 #;I
Stockton, California 95201
RR: Addendum to Preliminary Report/Workplan for Additional Subsurface
Investigation at Laidlaw Corporation, 1144 'Tillie Lewis Drive, Stockton,
California, Site Code 2454.
Dear Ms. Turkatte:
At the request of Laidlaw Corporation, this letter has been prepared to serve as an Addendum
to the Workolan (RESNA/WaterWork, December 10, 1990) for the subject site and is tit
response to San Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS) correspondence dated
September 11, 1991. The location of the subject property is shown on Figure 1.. Based upon
data collected to date, the installation of three additional soil boringlgroundwater monitoring
wells should be sufficient to further define the lateral extent of groundwater contamination at the
project site. Soil and groundwater samples will be collected and submitted for laboratory
i analysis and a report summarizing field procedures and data collected during this investigation
will be prepared.
BACKGROUND
One underground xylene storage tank was removed at the project site on June 29, 1990. Soil
samples collected beneath the tank and associated piping detected xylene at levels as high as
27,000 parts per million (ppm). The elevated levels of xylene in soils beneath the former tank
indicated further investigation was necessary.
On March 27, 1991 three soil borings (MW1, MW2, MW3) were advanced at the project site
to assess the lateral and vertical extent of soil contamination. The borings were subsequently
completed as groundwater monitoring wells to assess the extent of groundwater contamination,
Groundwater samples collected from the on-site wells contained dissolved xylenes at levels
ranging from non-detect to 2,300 parts per billion (ppb). Groundwater beneath the site flows
generally east-southeast. Field activities performed during the initial investigation at the site are
I.CA I N6,s,w
