This soil was placed in a Mason jar and the head space was
I screened for petroleum hydrocarbon constituents with a photoionization
detector (PTD) . A sample was then collected for chemical analyses by
driving a 6—inch brass tube into the soil in the backhoe bucket.
In the open excavation sampling was performed along two vertical profiles
on the opposite walls of the excavation.- Samples were collected at depths
of 8, 10, 12, 15 and 18 feet on each vertical profile. An additional
isolated sample was collected at 15--foot depth. The samples submitted for
chemical analyses were from the 12— and 18—foot sampling depths from each
of the vertical profiles, and the isolated sample from 15 feet: Plate 1
E . illustrates the sampling locations in the open excavation. Table 1 lists
the sample locations, PID screening results, and samples retained.
From the excavated soil, four sampling locations were chosen to measure
thehead space with the PID and collect samples in a brass tube. At each
location samples were collected at shallow, intermediate and deep depths.
Table 2 lists the sample locations, PID screening results, and samples
i retained. Plate 2 presents the sampling locations from the excavated
soil. From each of these sampling points, the sample with the highest PID
reading was submitted for chemical analyses.
r
T rr1r 11K{1111[15:W'.dnpt t nh•l Srurnyvair ,.
