ANALYTICAL METHODOLOGY
BTX - Method 8280
WATER -
5 ml sample volume is purged on a Tekmar LSC-2/ALS purge and
trap system with Helium. The purged sample is analyzed onia
Varian 3400 GC equipped with a Photo Ionization Detector. and a
Flame Ionization Detector (PID/FID) . A Bentone packed column is
used to separate compounds.
SOIL -
4 grams of soil are weighed into a 40 ml QA/QC prepped VOA ;;
vial. Soils received in brass core tubes are sampled by discarding
1 - 2 inches of soil from each end of .the tubes. (This islgdone
to reduce the possibility of analyzing a portion of'isoil that has
been exposed to possible sampling technique contamination) : 2
grams of soil are then removed from each end of the tube and
combined in the 49 ml VOA vial. Soil in jars or bags is aliquoted
with a similar technique which discards exposed sample surfaces.
10 ml of methanol are added to the soil and the soils is shaken
with the solvent. 100 ul of the extract is injectedi into 51ml
of laboratory blank water and then analyzed by the same 'technique
as a water sample.
i M
CH EMWEST ANALYTICAL LABORATORIES,INC.
