KLE1NfELDER
i
2 BACKGROUND
The AT&T facility is located at 157 West Turner Avenue in Lodi,
California, as shown on Plate 1'. Four underground diesel storage tanks
were removed from the site, and backfill material and native soil
(approximately 400 cubic yards) around the tanks were excavated and
stockpiled near the tank excavation. Kleinfelder has performed a soil
sampling program to assess the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons.
Kleinfelder's letter "Soil Sampling at AT&T Facility, 157 West Turner
Avenue, Lodi., California," dated May 21, 1987 (included in Appendix A)
presents the details of this sampling program.
Total petroleum hydrocarbons were below detectable limits in the soil
samples collected from the wall and floor of the open tank excavation.
Soil samples were also collected from the excavated soil pile; and four
,i
samples with the highest photoionization detector (PID) readings were
submitted for laboratory analysis.. Total petroleum'-'!hydrocarbons-+as diesel
were detected at 220, 430, 440, and 1,100 mg/kg in the four samples
selected from the pile (refer td-Appendix A for additional information) .
These results probably represent. the highest local concentrations of
` petroleum hydrocarbons in the stockpiled soil. Based on PID readings from
k i
11 samples, the overall level of, contamination throughout the stockpiled
soil is probably significantly lower than indicated by the four selected
samples.
i
E
59-87-679 2
{
f
yy
