Upon receipt of your letter, Unocal directed Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants,
Inc. (Sierra-Pacific) to prepare a workplan for additional soil sampling and monitor well
installation at the Washington Street facility.
The proposed work has been divided into five tasks. The phased approach embodied in this
i
pronncal is designed to.a ldref:S-concerns.of the Central 11 ' v _.Tteaonnal Water Quality Control
j-
Board (RWQCB) while providing a cost-effective investigation/remediation program.
Project tasks are listed in the order Unocal would(`suggest to conduct the work. Unocal has
given this project considerable thought look forward to discussing investigative and remediation
methodologies with you.
1. SOEL SAMPLING - Two areas of the Washington Street facility require additional
soil sampling and laboratory testing: the concrete driveway west of the urea tank and
west of the previous soil boring P33. As many as 20 locations may have to be
sampled to delineate the lateral and vertical extent of TKN contamination. A hand
auger will be used to advance borings after concrete cores are removed from each
sample site. Both impact and composite soil samples must be taken to identify zones
of TKN contamination.
'i
