C
Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants Inc
Geologists, Engineers, and Compliance Specialists ,R
,jl
Jet
December 9, 1996 ..a
Mr. W.T. Nickerson
Unocal, ERS .
2000 Crow Canyon Road, Suite 400
San Ramon, California 94583
Subject. Second Semi Annual 1996 Monitoring Report, 2130 West Washington Street, Stockton, Unocal
Order/Contract: 3400001179, Sierra-Pacific Project No. 92-033
Dear Mr. Nickerson:
The Second Semi-Annual 1996 Monitoring Report is enclosed for your information. Copies have been sent to
all concerned parties. Not much has changed at 2130 West Washington Street.
Near-surface ground water has flowed generally west since 1993. The potentiometric gradient on 18 September
1996 was 0.001. Water levels at up-gradient monitoring well MW-2 have exhibited the greatest seasonal
variations due to localized ponding and infiltration of surface runoff. Nitrates detected in ground-water samples
from monitoring wells MW-2, MW-3, and MW-8 originate from an off-site source. Water samples collected
from the single, down-gradient, monitoring well(MW-7)have consistently contained little or no detectable nitrate
concentrations. I am still convinced that elevated TDS levels detected in ground water samples from the site are
largely related to upward migration of brackish connate water.
Please let me know if you have questions or further directives.
Sincerely,
S RRA-PACIFIC GROUNDWATER CONSULTANTS, INC.
Jc tephen R pp, CEG-1133
Senior Engineering Geologist
JSR/jb
Enclosures
C.
