Appendix C Maintenance BMPs <br /> C.14.2 Material Use <br /> -- I <br /> n K <br /> vu�sM Ew . <br /> £4 <br /> i" <br /> Figure C.14,2.1 Material Use <br /> Description: <br /> Material use procedures and practices are used at maintenance facilities and maintenance activity sites <br /> to prevent the discharge of materials to stormwater drainage systems or watercourses. <br /> Appropriate Applications: <br /> These procedures are implemented at maintenance facilities and at maintenance activity sites where <br /> pesticides, fertilizers, detergents, plaster, petroleum products, asphalt and concrete components, <br /> concrete compounds and other material that may be detrimental if released to the environment are used <br /> or prepared. <br /> Implementation: <br /> Contract agreements with haulers who supply materials to maintenance activity sites should require <br /> them to supply materials in accordance with the requirements of this BMP. <br /> Latex paint and paint cans, used brushes, rags, absorbent materials and drop cloths shall be <br /> disposed of in accordance with federal, state and local requirements. <br /> Do not remove the original product label from a container as it contains Important spill cleanup and <br /> disposal information. Make copies of the label information or safety data sheet(SDS) if needed. Use <br /> the entire product before disposing of the container. Appropriately label all secondary containers. <br /> Mix paint in a containment area. Do not clean paintbrushes or rinse paint containers where rinseate <br /> may discharge into a street, gutter, stormwater drainage systems or watercourses. Rinseate from <br /> latex paint cleaning shall be disposed of properly. Empty paint cans shall be dry prior to disposal as <br /> solid waste.
