1 Mr. Marvin Palmer
October 4, 1985
1 Page 2
1 spill. However, it does not appear that Pb contamination is a concern in
i this area. In addition, surface samples collected near a concrete
foundation in the truck parking are indicated a PCP concentration of 33
ppm. PCP contamination appears limited to the surface soils. However, the
1 vertical extent of PCP contamination has not been confirmed.
Oil and grease concentrations were below the detection limit (50 ppm) in
the lumber storage area and oil/grease contamination does not appear to
1 be a concern in this area.
PCBs were not detected in the maintenance shop ditch and PCP
i contamination does not appear to be a concern in this area. Moderate
concentrations of Pb (approximately 100 ppm) and diesel (1000 ppm) were
detected in the 1 to 2.5 foot soil samples. These elevated concentrations
1 appear to be the result of a leak in the piping system of an underground
diesel tank located west of the maintenance shop.
Recommended future actions included:
1 • Oily areas within the truck parking/lumber storage areas
should be either
' - excavated to visibly clean soil, or
disked to promote biological degradation, or
- paved to prevent surface water infiltration
1 • Underground diesel tank piping should be repaired
i • Oily soil in the maintenance shop ditch should be
excavated to visibly clean soil
' The above recommendations should be discussed with DOHS. Any future
actions must be approved and coordinated with DOHS.
1
1
1
i
1
