COLLECTION OF GRAB GROUNDWATERSAMPLES
To collect and preserve ground water samples for laboratory analysisi and to properly abandon
borings:
• Collect grab ground water samples from the deep soil boring when the saturated zone and
total probing depth has been reached. Ground water samples will be collected using a new,
pre-cleaned disposable polyethylene bailer. These bailers are disposed of after one use and
require no decontaminating, thereby minimizing cross contamination due to sampling
devices. Samples will be drawn and collected in such a manner that agitation and exposure
of the groundwater to the atmosphere is minimal. Sample containers will be filled using the
appropriate disposable sampling attachment which allows contro ed flow out of the bottom
of the bailer by lifting the check valve.
• Ground water samples from the septic leach field will be collect d into six EPA-approved
40 ml VOA vials with 0.5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid as a samp a preservative, one 1-liter
amber glass container lacking a preservative, and one 500-m1 I lastic container lacking a
preservative.(Note on the chain-of-custody that the 500-m1 and 1-liter sample containers do
not contain a preservative and have not been filtered).
• The ground water sample collected fromthe west ditch area will b collected into four 40-m1
VOA vials, one 1-liter amber glass bottle and one 500-m1 plastic bottle as described above.
• Label each sample container with boring designation, date and time of sampling, and
sampler's initials, and log samples on a chain-of-custody form
• Store samples in a chilled container pending transport under c -of-custody to a state-
certified laboratory for analysis.
• Backfill each boring to surface grade using portland cement utilL,ing a tremmie pipe.
4.5. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed •th clean water after being
washed with a solution of Alconox. All down-hole drilling and sampling equipment will be pressure
washed prior to starting the boring.
4.6. LABORATORY ANALYSES
Selected ground water and soil samples will be analyzed for:
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
