Site Description
the basement complex of the Province have not been completely defined, but i Lre believed to be
metamorphic and igneous in origin(AGE, 2004).
Boring logs from a number of soil borings on the site show the soil profile to consist roughly of a 50-50
mixture of coarse-grained(silty sand to poorly graded sand)and fine-grained clay to sandy silt)soils
from the surface to as much as 50 feet below ground surface (bgs). The soil t,rpes vary laterally and
vertically and do not exhibit significant lateral continuity.
The Modesto,Riverbank, and Turlock Lake Formations and overlying Receni alluvium are the principal
sources of domestic groundwater in the 13,500-square mile San Joaquin Valk y Groundwater Basin
(Basin 5-22). Groundwater is considered to be of beneficial use and is used for domestic, industrial, and
commercial uses.
Groundwater in the southern portion of the site is currently being monitored r volatile organic
compounds(VOCs) and diesel. The latest quarterly groundwater data(URS Company America[URS,
2005b]), indicate that groundwater was encountered at depths between approi imately 49 and 52 feet Ings
and was flowing toward the north-northeast. The URS report showed the his rical local groundwater
flow direction generally northward,varying from west-northwest to east-sou east(URS, 2005b).
The nearest surface water feature in the vicinity of the site is the Calaveras river, located approximately
3,300 feet north of the site.
2.2 Site History and Development
Information on the site history was developed by AGE through their review f various reports prepared
by Kleinfelder and D&M,discussions with Mr.Glen Gallup of AMMC,file reviews and interviews at
the San Joaquin County Public Health Services—Environmental Health Divi ion(PHS-EHD),the
Regional Water Quality Control Board(RWQCB), and review of various do uments supplied by AMMC.
Draft
KB61125 workplan-ESC MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc. 7
September 28,2005
