Site Description
The Site was operated by American Forest Products Company(AFPC)for ma nufacturing wood products
from 1921 to 1987 (D&M, 1992). AMMC purchased the property in 1987 an continues manufacturing
wood furniture. The industrial operation initially occurred primarily on the s uthern portion of the Site
but has moved to the north portion of the property. The southern portion of tf a Site is not currently in
use, where all buildings have been removed. The Finger Joint/Box Cover Bu lding was previously
destroyed in a fire.
2.3 Site Investigative History
As reported by AGE, Bechtel National,Ina (BNI)and Kleinfelder conducted investigations of the Site in
1984 and 1985. According to AGE,BNI conducted two site investigations in the area of the former
maintenance building on the south portion of the site in 1985 and 1986; the 11186 report, presumably
prepared for AFPC. AGE's review of the 1985 BNI report identified diesel c ntamination(up to 1,000
milligrams per kilogram [mg/kg]) associated with a 10,000-gallon diesel and rground storage tank(UST)
located west of the maintenance building and pentachlorophenol(PCP;up to 33 mg/kg) and lead(up to
200 mg/kg)present in shallow soil in an unpaved parking lot west of the Fing er Joint Building. In
addition according to AGE,BNI collected and analyzed two shallow(0 to 6 ' ches)soil samples for
background concentrations of arsenic, chromium, copper, mercury, and lead. One sample was reportedly
collected near the employee parking lot and one was collected off the site.
According to AGE,D&M completed a Phase I Site Assessment for the site ii 1987 which identified
several potential environmental concerns. According to AGE,D&M also prepared a Phase H
Investigation dated February 25, 1987 which cited the potential environment I concerns identified in the
Phase I and are the basis of the AOCs discussed below.
On the basis of the D&M 1987 Phase H Investigation,Kleinfelder performed investigation activities at the
Site in July 1987(Kleinfelder, 1992). With the exception of a water supplyell(which was subsequently
destroyed),the investigation activities were associated with the AOCs discus ed below.
