AOC Work Plans
4.5 Wash Down Areas
Site Summary
According to Kleinfelder(Kleinfelder, 1992),rinse water generated during cleaning of glue
application equipment, priming equipment, and saw blades was discharged onto surface soils at
five separate locations(Wash Down Areas)at the site. The five locations were located east of the
Ray Bond building, north of the Millwork building, south of the Priming building, west of the Saw
Filing room, and north of the 44x 120 (feet) Storage Building(Plate 4.5).
Previous Investigations
Ray Bond Building
Two surface soil samples (locations not depicted on maps available for review) collected and
analyzed by Kleinfelder in the open space east of the Ray Bond building in 1987 and analyzed for
formaldehyde and phenols only. Formaldehyde and phenols were detected at maximum
concentrations of 47 and 0.68 mg/kg respective. Kleinfelder concluded that because these
concentrations were below applicable cleanup levels(9,200 and 37,000 mg/kg respectively),no
further work to evaluate the extent of these compounds was warranted.
in 2001, AGE drilled one soil boring in the vicinity of the Penta Tank(adjacent to the Ray Bond
wash down area) area to a depth of 55 feet bgs (PB-4). One soil sample (from a depth of 10 foot
bgs) and one groundwater sample were collected and submitted for laboratory analyses for SVOCs,
phenols, and formaldehyde. For the soil sample, formaldehyde was detected at a concentration of
3.2 mg/kg,well below the residential PRG of 9,200 mg/kg while SVOCs and phenols were below
reporting limits. None of the requested compounds were detected in the groundwater sample.
Draft
KB61125 workplan-ESC MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc. 43
September 28,2005
