AOC Work Plans
Millwork Building
Two surface soil samples(locations not depicted on maps available for rev iew)were collected and
analyzed by Kleinfelder in the vicinity of the wash down area near the Mil work Building in 1987
and analyzed for formaldehyde and phenols only. Formaldehyde and pher.ols were detected at
maximum concentrations of 45 and 0.92 mg/kg respective. Kleinfelder coi icluded that because
these concentrations were below applicable regulatory cleanup levels,no f uther work to evaluate
the extent of these compounds was warranted.
In December 2001,AGE installed an additional boring PB-8 in the Millw k Building washdown
area and collected a grab groundwater sample from the boring. The sampl was analyzed for
TPHg,TPHd,TPHmo,VOCs, and formaldehyde. With the exception of Hd and TPHmo,
detected at concentrations of 0.089 and 0.330 mg/L respectively, all reque ted compounds were
below laboratory reporting limits for the groundwater sample.
Priming Building
No information is available that indicates sampling of surface soils or grou adwater has ever been
performed at the Priming Building Area(Plate 4.5).
Saw Filing Room
According to Kleinfelder(Kleinfelder, 1992),the saw filing room, located Do the north end of the
Finger Joints/Box Factory Building(Plate 4.5),was utilized for pitch and 1 ibricant removal using a
lye solution(sodium hydroxide)prior to being used for sharpening saw bh des. The lye solution
was collected during the cleaning operation, but rinse water was reportedI3 discharged onto surface
soil north of the saw filing room. The soil north of the saw filing room dra ined into a culvert which
was likely the western ditch. In 1987 Kleinfelder collected two shallows it samples(locations not
depicted on maps available for review)between the discharge point and th culvert.
