INTRODUCTION
' At the request of Mr. J. Patrick Hughes of American Moulding and Mil work Company (AM&M)
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc. (AGE)has prepared this report docun eating advancement of soil
' probe borings and collection of soil and grab ground water samples at N nious areas of concern on
the above referenced site identified in Site Contamination WorkPlan, dat d 11 September 2001, and
Site Contamination Work Plan Addendum, dated 23 October 2001, hot i prepared by AGE. These
' areas were identified in the 1987 Phase I and/or in the 20 March 2 00 updated Phase I Site
Assessment as potentially having been impacted by unauthorized releas s of hazardous materials.
This report has been prepared as directed by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board —
' (RWQCB) by letter dated 09 October 2001 (Appendix A).
' 1.1. SITE LOCATION
The site is located on a 61-acre property on the southwest comer of the ' tersection of North West
Lane and East Alpine Avenue (Figure 1). A site map illustrating structures on the property is
included as Figure 2. The site has low topographic relief, sloping gently toward the west to
southwest, at an elevation between 15 and 20 feet above sea level.
1.2. GEOLOGY AND HYDROGEOLOGY
The property is situated within the Great Valley Geomorphic Provin e of California, a large,
elongate, northwest trending, asymmetric structural trough. The Great Valley Province has been
' filled to its present elevation with thick sequences of sediment ranging in age from Jurassic to
Recent, creating a nearly flat-lying alluvial plain extending from the Tehachapi Mountains in the
south to the Klamath Mountains in the north. The western and eastern boundaries of this province
' are comprised of the California Coast Range and the Sierra Nevada, resp tively. Rocks composing
the basement complex of the province have not been completely defined but are believed to be of
metamorphic and igneous origin. The Great Valley Province is subdividei I into two major divisions
designated the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys.
' The Modesto, Riverbank and Turlock Lake Formations and overlying Recent alluvium are the
principal source of domestic ground water in the 13,500-square-mile Sa i Joaquin Valley Ground
Water Basin(Basin 5-22).
' Boring logs from a number of soil borings on the site show the soil prof le to consist roughly of a
50-50 mixture of coarse grained (silty sand to poorly graded sand) and fine grained soil (clay to
_Advanced GeoEnviron enwl,Inc.
