11 September 2001
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0466
' at 200 mg/kg in one sample, the concentrations were reported to be within background levels for the
remaining samples.A table of analytical data and a sampling map taken from Kleinfelder's Soil and
Ground Water Assessment,American Moulding&Millwork dated 04 November 1987 was included
' in AGE's Site Environmental History report, dated 04 May 2001. AGE proposes to place two
borings(proposed borings PB 1 and P132)in the general area to obtain und water and soil samples
to assess for PCP and TCP and lead. gro
3.1.2. "Penta Tank"
' Kleinfelder proposed in the June 1987 work plan to place a boring nea r the penta tank and collect
soil samples at 5, 10, 15 and 20 feet bsg to analyze for PCP and trichloro henol(TCP).Kleinfelder's
1992 Phase III report recounted that the samples collected in the boring in 1987 did not contain
detectable concentrations of PCP or TCP. AGE does not have a copy of the primary report of the
investigation. Figure 3 shows the approximate location of the former penta tank; the Kleinfelder
' boring locations are not known by AGE, but may be represented on the sampling location map
partially dated"June 9"included in Appendix C of AGE's Site Environmental History report,dated
04 May 2001. The unattached map, apparently copied from a report (Figure 5-1) was among
' materials reviewed for this report. AGE proposes to place a boring(PB3)in the general `penta tank'
area to obtain a ground water sample primarily to assess for PCP and TCP. The same sample can be
' utilized to assess for contaminants potentially released from the Ray Bond wash-down area, as will
be discussed in Section 3.4.1.
' 3.2. STEAM CLEANING AND WESTERN DITCH AREAS
' The two steam cleaning areas and the western ditch have an interrelated environmental history. Both
steam cleaning areas discharged water to the western ditch area(Figure 3). The primary area(SCAI)
was north of the former maintenance building, immediately west of the water tower;the secondary
' area(SCA2)was north and west of the Finger joints building. A series of three sumps along a drain
line connected the primary steam cleaning area to the western drainage ditch;the drain line may have
also received waste water from the SCA2 operation. Also, runoff Tay have drained from the
' secondary steam cleaning area directly to the western drainage ditch.
' 3.2.1. South Steam Cleaning Area- SCAI
Kleinfelder (1992) reported that SCAI was assessed through a soil ampling program and that
elevated hydrocarbon concentrations were not detected by the assessn lent. The 1992 Kleinfelder
report did not contain details of the investigation. AGE does not have a copy of the primary report
of the investigation. AGE collected soil samples in the SCAI area in ecember 2000 to assess for
' Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
