Mr. Charles White
September 6, 1988
Page 3
4. Modified Waste Extraction Test results. Sediment and soil
samples are currently being subjected to tests that follow
Waste Extraction Test methods but that use water as the
extracting solutions instead of acid. This test will more
closely simulate the leaching potential of site conditions
should water come in contact with sediments or soils after
closure. The results of the tests will be included in the
Final Engineering and Environmental Analysis Report.
5. Soil physical characteristics. Certain soil characteristics
have been measured for representative soils. The results of
this testing will be included in the Final Engineering and
Environmental Analysis Report.
6. Available information on historic groundwater levels. This
information is presented in Attachment 1.
7. Available information on private wells in the area of the
facility. This information has been reproduced as
Attachment 2. This information has been previously
submitted.
8. Information on the 100-year flood plain in the vicinity of
pond. Excerpts from the Facility Operations Plan (MCTC
1985) presented in Attachment 3.
Pond Preparation For Winter
The pond will be prepared to remain uncovered through the winter
months of 1988-89 by completing the activities listed in Attachment 4.
Revised Closure Plan
Based upon the scheduled completion of the final Engineering and
Environmental Analysis Report, the final Closure Plan will be revised
and submitted by October 31, 1988.
Revised cost estimates for the cap will be included in the Plan.
The financial commitment for the final Pond Closure is already
submitted and approved.
