20 May, 1999 ;
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0466
Page 3 of 7
The PHS-EHD issued a letter dated 27 July 1998 notin that; based on the data available, the site
appeared to be a candidate for closure, but requiring ve 'fication of non-detectable concentrations
of TPH-d and BTEX in soil below 45 feet bsg and in sol and ground water at the ground water/soil
interface. A second PHS-EHD letter, dated 03 March 15 99, required a work plan to assess vertical
and lateral extent of coritaniination at the previous UST ocation. Following a discussion of the site
history and.current status between AGE and Ms. Carol 0z of the PHS-EHD on 19 May 1999, it was
decided that it would be appropriate to advance two soil borings in the area of the former UST.pit
and in the dispenser-area excavation to collect, soil and ground water. samples to assess for the
presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil and ground waterto depths below 45 feet bsg.This work
plan has been prepared to'perform the assessment.
3.0. SCOPEOF WORK
To meet the PHS-EHD requirements for closure.consi ration, AGE'proposes-to:
• Advance two soil borings to 50 feet bsg;
• Collect soil and ground water samples from the borings;
• Procure.laboratory analysis for TPH=d and 131 EX in the.ground water and selected soil
samples; and
• Prepare a report of finding.
Assuming favorable results are obtained, 'a site closure summary report can be prepared and
submitted with a request for site closure to the PHS=E D.
3.1. SOIL AND GROUND WATER INVESTIGATION .
AGE proposes to meet the PHS-MD requirements for the additional site investigation by,advancing
two soil borings to collect soil and ground water samples for laboratory'analysis..One soil boring will
be advanced in the former UST pit and one in the dispenser-excavation area. Both borings will be
advanced to 50 feet bsg. Ground water is currently at.a depth of approximately 35 feet bsg (Dames
& Moore, April 1999, Quarterly.Groundwater Monito ing Report March 1999) in well DMW2,
located approximately 13 feet south of the former excavation. Soil samples will be collected'at 5-foot
intervals from 5 feet bsg to total depth, at the anticipate vadose-zone/saturated zone interface, and
at total depth. Ground water samples will be collected t the top of the saturated zone and at total
depth. An additional soil boring to 50 feet bsg will be ad anced to collect soil samples to assess for
impacted soil"and ground water in the former-UST pit. Soil samples will be collected at 5-foot
intervals from 10 feet bsg to total depth and at the va ose zone/saturated zone interface. If field
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
